Chatfield State Park Miles of hiking and biking make this park worth the short drive from Denver. South Platte River runs through this small community, creating world class trout fishing. State Park include acre lake, fishing, boating, hiking, ice fishing. Our site was on the Sage Loop which is the most big rig friendly loop. We have stayed here before and depending on how busy it is, you can select a site in the trees or out in the open.

First come first serve campground. Dispersed camping is easy to find just out of Georgetown and Grant, dating service meet on the byway.
While there is no dispersed camping at Maroon Bells, black free there is some close to Aspen. Dispersed camping can be found near Pickle Gulch Campground. Sustainable trophy hunting. Separate tent campground area. Site was also very unlevel.
The bathrooms are always clean. Enjoy fishing and hiking at the foot of the Rockies. Best price I could find on short notice in the Buena Vista area. Dispersed camping can be found just south from Redstone Campground. The road noise is the only negative, especially in the early morning, but our new big rig now keeps it shut out.
Nice location in the Poudre Canyon. Camping is permitted once you hit the Gunnison N. It worked for our needs though and price was ok. The river did provide some noise to block the road traffic, but it wasn't enough. This campground is also a major river access point for rafting companies and there is a large parking lot and staging area for rafters.
Hiking and biking trails provide traditional fun while shooting ranges offer a change of pace from typical park life and campsites make it easy to stay and play. We left the next day and stayed at a professional campground down the road. Enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
There are no hookups, and nothing around the campground except beautiful scenery. Campsites with full hookups accommodate everything from tents to big rigs and the on-site pool is great for cooling off in the summer. You really do need to make reservations if you want the few hookups. This area offers some of Colorado's best scenery, and is off the beaten path.
Follow that to Co Rd and then take that west to the lake. The only exception is the Trappers Lake area. Stagecoach is the State's base camp for Flattops Wilderness Area. Dispersed camping can be found in the White River National Forest, west of the lake.
Looking for that perfect romantic getaway? The campground fills every weekend and some week days. Some corners are very sharp, and line of vision is blocked by the curves to see on coming traffic. The appliances are very dated, but functional. Nice people, and nice river access. Camp in shade along the Chama River. There are more than enough of these to go around, if you know where to look. Near Vogel Canyon to see actual dinosaur tracks.
There is some camping available on this road. With forests, deserts, rivers, mountains and more, Colorado has a lot to offer campers and hikers. Still back in sites and ours was next to the dumpster.
- The sites are near the road, but we didn't notice any noise.
- Take Co Rd west out of town.
- The staff are not all that friendly.
- We had a level back-in site with plenty of room.
- All campsites are within walking distance to the lake.
The first is open to power boats, jet skis, and water skiing, and the latter permits only wakeless boating. Dirt biking in the area is also popular. We visited towards the end of the season in October, so the campground was half full. Plenty of space between sites, fire pit far enough from the trailer.
The campgrounds are laid out in an alpine forest. No campgrounds, but dispersed camping is permitted around the lake with valid hunting or fishing license. Rifle Falls is a small, forested state park, with creek-side campgrounds. Vrain is a charming State Park with full hookup and electric only campsites. Adequate water pressure, and electrical connection.
Take a right on Woody Creek Rd. Both these problems are easily fixed by the owners if they cared. Need a hunting or fishing cabin? Firewood available from the hosts. Pitkin is surrounded by the Gunnison National Forest, oasis east of Gunnison.

Camping in Central Colorado
Not part of this review, but the cabins were ok, but dirty. Take Guanella Pass Rd from downtown Georgetown. Ancient cliff dwellings are the primary tourist draw, and there are many hiking trails to enjoy for all levels of ability. If this is what you are looking for don't miss this place. The only drawback is that there isn't a huge amount to do from right there at the campground, but I'd still go back.
Colorado RV Camping
This campground has a lot of trees, so you can have shade. John Martin Reservoir a paradise where birds flock, wildlife roam. Vault restrooms very clean and odor free. Biking, fishing, swimming and water skiing are common. Fish White River and Kenney Reservoir.
Estes Park Campgrounds & RV Parks
Summer pool, indoor hot tub, mini-golf. We will return, though, because the scenery is beautiful and fishing at the lake are great. If they are important to you then you might not be happy campers. Forest well away from the main highway on the opposite side of the river. This was my best all time camping experience.
